Marion Du Fresne
A French privateer of the East India captain and exploroer. His expedition led to the hypothesis to find Terra austrlis in 1771, made important geographical discoveries in the southern Indian Ocean and anthropological discoveries in Taamanian and New Zealand waters. He was murdered by members of the Ngare Raunati tribe of New Zealandin 1772. He is commemorated with the naming of Marion Bay on the east coast of Tasmania.
