Nicholas Baudin, Lesiuer and Francois Peron
Capt. Nicholas Baudin, the leader of a French expedition whose chief object was a scientific examination of the coasts of Australia and Tasmania, visited Adventure Bay on May 20, 1802, in the Geography.
He stayed only two days for wood and water. Earlier the Geographe and her accompanying naval ship, Naturaliste, had spent more than a month exploring in D'Entrecasteaux Channel.
Small boat voyages were made to Bruny and parts of the Mainland.
Pierre Faure, a boat commander, discovered Eaglehawk Neck. Further surveys were made of the Derwent and the east coast.
